Visible Enterprise Architecture and Business Modeling Center

Welcome to the Visible Enterprise Architecture and Business Modeling Center. Here you will find guides, tutorials and proven practices on building an Enterprise Architecture and Business Model for your organization. If you have any questions, please contact our support team. But before you proceed any further, please review an overview of the Visible Analyst commercial edition video clip so you can get a good idea of the type of models you will be building as a part of your Enterprise Architecture and Business Modeling initiative.

We have also created a number of FREE "How To..." training videos to assist users when learning and using the Visible Analyst. Each video explores a specific function or feature and helps you get started using and understanding the Visible Analyst. Use the link above or the "Other Helpful Information" link in the sidebar to access these "How To..." videos.

Now that you have reviewed the overview of what type of models can be built with the Visible Analyst, the next step is to look at one or more of the modeling areas that you will want to understand in more detail. You can do this by reviewing the recorded flash demos below that depict some of the more detailed areas.

The next step is to download and review the Tutorial Guide that is available as an eBook. Upon opening the Tutorial Guide, go to the Addendum section that reviews some of the more advanced features of the Visible Analyst. The intent of Addendum is to explain these features while building upon your knowledge gained following an understanding of some of the more basic functions.

The final step is to obtain a license for the Visible Analyst. If you don't already have a valid serial number then you will need to subscribe to a license by clicking on the "Subscribe Now" link on the top of the left side bar or by contacting us at sales@visiblesystemscorp.com. The single user installation instructions can be downloaded using the link: "Download Instructions". Contact our support team for a copy of the concurrent multi-user installation instructions.

Once you install the Visible Analyst, restore the tutorial project "DMV_CUSTOMIZED" which represents an example of an Enterprise Architecture for a Division of Motor Vehicles, typical of one you might find in your state or province. All of the models are completed, including links between the models. The project has been extended to further demonstrate the custom diagrams, and artifact stereotype customizations available in the Visible Analyst. Below are the steps to follow in order to Restore the project and view the diagram template customizations. NOTE: The customizations are only displayed in the Visible Analyst Professional, Enterprise and University VA2013 editions once the appropriate Template and Stereotype folders and VAExtensions.INI file are copied into the appropriate locations as described below. The Network diagram and Artifact Stereotype customizations are not displayed when the project is restored to other versions of the Visible Analyst.

  1. Click here to download the Visible Analyst cutomization updates.
  2. Click here to download the Visible Analyst project backup files.
  3. Unzip the files to a temporary folder on the PC, C:\Temp for example.
  4. Copy the file VA32.EXE into the C:\Program Files\Visible\va folder, or the C:\Program Files(x86)\Visible\va folder on a 64-bit PC.
  5. Copy the file VR32.DLL into the C:\Program Files\Visible\va folder, or the C:\Program Files(x86)\Visible\va folder on a 64-bit PC.
  6. Copy the "Stereotypes" folder so that it is a sub-folder of the C:\ProgramData\Visible\va folder.
  7. Copy the "Templates" folder so that it is a sub-folder of the C:\ProgramData\Visible\va folder.
  8. Copy the file "VAExtensions.ini" into the C:\ProgramData\Visible\va folder, overwriting the existing file.
  9. Start the Visible Analyst and choose the Tools | Restore menu item.
  10. On the first restore dialog, enter the name of the project, DMV_CUSTOMIZED, into the Name field and click OK. It is not necessary to modify either of the path's displayed at the top of the dialog box.
  11. At the second dialog, click the Browse button to point to the folder where you unzipped the files, C:\Temp in this example, and click OK. The project will be restored to the Visible Analyst.
  12. Select the File | Open Diagram menu item to display a list of the diagram types. Click the + icon next to a diagram type to view the diagrams. Double click on a diagram to open the diagram.
  13. Double click on a diagram symbol to open the items repository entry.
You are also invited to view our eLearning videos on the left side bar. While viewing the videos, take special note of the Planning Statements, Business Process Model and the interrelationships across model artifacts. These eLearning videos demonstrate how to use the Visible Analyst to develop and implement an Enterprise Architecture and Business Model for the project tutorial, Division of Motor Vehicles.

Each one of the eLearning videos are designed to help you better understand how an organization's strategy, goals, roles, data, processes and events are represented as an integrated part of an Enterprise Architecture. You will learn how to represent these objects as planning statements and how to perform impact analysis (i.e., how a strategy could impact processes, what information is needed to support a process, how an event might impact roles).
