Razor: Hardware and Software requirements

Details and Specifications

At Visible, we recognize that there is no such thing as "One size fits all". Therefore, we let you model the use interface to fit your needs.

Razor© runs on many platforms: you may download the version that's right for you .

Power to the Users

All of the information managed during the evolution of issues and the development of code is maintained in word readable, easily parsed, ASCII files. Although the tool suite is delivered with a robust set of mechanisms for querying this database, Visible Systems recognizes that each site has unique requirements. Users are encouraged to write their own query mechanisms, which can be done either through programs, or (more likely) UNIX shell scripts employing the natural powers of awk, perl, grep, etc. As users develop query tools, they are encouraged to contact Visible Systems about possible inclusion in future releases and thereby becoming fully supported.

The user interface is highly extensible . Each work group can attach programs and scripts either directly to pull down buttons on the main displays, or as 'side effects' of the normal action buttons. For example, a work group could attach a script which sends e-mail each time certain files are checked out. Another group could automatically run metrics analysis programs on files as they are checked back in.

E-Mail Interface

Users may also interact with Razor© via an e-mail interface. Problem report input and queries can all be performed by team members who may be located remotely.

Multiple Synchronized Databases

Expanding on the above themes, Razor's© global tracking capability allows geographically distinct project teams to work off synchronized problem tracking databases. The resultant distributed environment facilitates communication and coordination of efforts between groups working in different locations.

Global tracking is included free with the normal Razor© installation, and is simple to administer.

System Requirements

Disk requirements vary by platform but in general are under 25Mb of file server disk space for UNIX operating systems and approximately 91Mb for Windows 2000/2003. Storage needs for the customer-generated databases will be installation dependent.

Razor© is available for the following platforms...

• Windows 2000 Server & Clients (32-bit) • SPARC Solaris 2.6+
• SPARC Solaris 2.5 • Linux 2.4.x kernel
• X86 Solaris 2.6+ • Linux 2.2.x kernel
• Irix 32-bit 5.3 + • Linux 2.6 x kernel
• Windows 2003 Server (32-bit) • Linux 3.x kernel
• HP-UX 10.10 +

• AIX 4.2 +

• Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10 (32 and 64-bit) • Irix 64-bit 6.5

In addition... Razor© also supports clients for Windows 7, 8, 8.1, and 10 (32 and 64-bit). The interfaces are nearly identical to those offered from UNIX, which makes switching back and forth trivially easy for your users.

Ports to other configurations are always in progress. Please contact us for more information.
